What is the simplest way of using Jmol in a blog?

Asked by [ Admin ]

Henry Rzepa has great blog posts, commonly including Jmol graphics of the beautiful molecular structures he blogs about. He uses Jmol for 3D molecular structures, and I should do that more often too, instead of nasty 2D diagrams.

Now, my blog is hosted on, and I am wondering what the easiest way is to use Jmol in these blogs. For example, could I just use the Jmol.js? Or are there easier approaches?

Jan Jensen has written up some notes in his blog, and gives this code:

<script src="" type="text/javascript">
<script type="text/javascript">
  jmolApplet(300, "load;");
  jmolButton("spin y" ,"spin y");
  jmolButton("spin off" ,"spin off");

You will need a server to host the jmol applet and the molecule files, but you should be able to use Jmol in blogger.  Choose the “Edit HTML” option to add the script tags to your post.

The Jmol documentation says that you should put the initial link to jmol.js in the Head tag, but I don’t see why you couldn’t put it in the body instead.
